We are San Francisco ~ Somos San Francisco
Somarts San Francisco installation for 2014
Somarts is celebrating 2014 Dia de los Muertos with the theme, Visions at Twilight.
“Visions at Twilight is evocative of the loss of culture and people being felt in the Bay Area now. This year the exhibition is dedicated to celebrated literary artists and activists Maya Angelou and Gabriel Garcia-Marquez, radio DJ Chata Gutierrez, and to musician and performer Holly Schneider."
My contribution, We Are San Francisco is highlighted by a large, handmade snake, shedding it's skin. I created the snake to represent the people of San Francisco, weathering the changes in our city, facing a renewal, rebirth and unification of our diverse values and histories. Despite gentrification, whether we remain physically or emotionally a part of this city, I believe our diverse values and culture remains.
The opening of this wonderful exhibit is this Friday, October 10, from 6 to 9pm at Somarts.
