New artwork, home accessories March 2010

I've been so busy in my studio. I have so many ideas that it feels like my hands can't work fast enough. Been enjoying my work on canvas which is always the most challenging for me. Blending colors, applying them to image transfers then canvas drives me crazy but keeps me challenged. I don't seem to tire of this work (is it work?) and I continually strive to learn and improve. Its hard to live up to my standards. Sometimes I have to take a break from the studio and spend some time at home. Today my husband Gary was home sick with a cold so I thought I would stay home too. Feels good to be here. I need a break and so does he.

Hope you enjoy the new work.

The work of Alejandra and Manuel Palos

Went to friend Ale's birthday party on Saturday night here in San Francisco. What a great time hanging out with various friends and family members. Took lots of people pics. Also managed to take lots of pics of the wonderful work of Ale and her dad Manuel Palos. They created the most incredible sculptures! Here's a flickr link to the pics of their work that I took that night.

March 2010 new work

artwork shown: Luchadores Shadow Box and Frida Kahlo Shadow Box - available on Etsy;
http://www.etsy.com/shop/estudiomartita

March has turned out to be a busy month so far with lots of new work in the making. I've been pretty focused on creating new assembled artwork plus work on canvas. I've really been enjoying my time in the studio. If I didn't have a husband and daughter to go home to I would probably work through the night and sleep at the studio. Its hard to stop working when you're on a roll!! I have just been feeling really energized about my work and enjoying putting more finishing details into every piece. Its great to feel so focused on my artwork and to enjoy the time I work on it.

Where the Days are Longer - new Etsy Treasury

On March 14, 2010 at 2a.m., daylight savings time begins. The days become longer until we reach Summer Solstice - the longest day of the year - in June. This is my favorite time of year. I look forward to this time all year. I love long days and wish we could have them year round. To celebrate, I decided to create a Treasury with work that evoked sunshine and long, bright days ahead. Hope you enjoy the work, the longer days ahead and hopefully some sunshine coming!!

Walking on the dock by the bay.....

Saturday I went for a walk along the waterfront with my husband Gary. My friend Katja (a fabulous painter) and Shawn (a fabulous photographer, etc.) told me about a hospital ship that was on dry dock near The Ramp Restaurant. By the way, if you live in San Francisco or are visiting, The Ramp is a fabulous place to have lunch or brunch on the weekends. Good food and fun and funky atmosphere sitting out on the deck on the bay. Okay, enough advertising. Anyway, I had to go see this ship for myself. Well, the ship was incredible to look at but so were the cloud formations and all the other ships, boats docked at the waterfront. We walked along passing some great broken down piers, private clubs, Mission Rock and were heading towards AT&T Park. So many new buildings are up now. Lots of condos, some office buildings with what appear to be FAB views of the bay. All I could say to Gary was how safe are these when I assume they're built on landfill? I was in San Francisco in 1989 in the same house I currently live in. We are built on bedrock. I was at home when the 6.9 earthquake hit. It was a jarring shake but there was no damage to our home. Land fill or sandy land is NOT FOR ME. I don't get why people would want to live there. Well, its near the ballpark so your last moments are close to your most precious sport????? Great location with a TO-DIE-FOR view??? Sorry, got off on a few tangents here. Anyway, we ended up at Mission Creek very near the ballpark. There are a few houseboats docked along here with views of a new San Francisco skyline. Its new to me because I never get out that way. All of those buildings have been built since the 1989 earthquake. It looks like an entirely new city around there and by the ballpark. My husband used to work with a lot of graphic artists, musicians around there because rent was cheap. Not cheap anymore! The creek always had houseboats but the story of Mission Creek is that the City used to dump raw sewage into the creek. Whenever you would pass by, the smell was overpowering!! Hence, the name "Shit Creek" was born. That Mission Bay and Mission Creek is now such a chi chi environment with gardens, walking paths and views is hysterical. To some of us, it will always be Shit Creek!! Don't you just love a little San Francisco history with your morning coffee?

Berry Berrylicious

I am just longing for some color during these gray California skies. The rains have returned after some very dry years here in California. Well, I'm happy about that but oh so tired of life without sunshine. For those east coasters, I know, we live a charmed life here in California!

So, I decided to put together a another Etsy Treasury with some delicious colors. This "t" I called BERRY BERRYLICIOUS.

This Treasury will be up and posted until March 7 at 9:29pm

Hope you enjoy it.

NEW ETSY Treasury I created called "OLIVES R4 olive us"

Had put together a group of items from Etsy to create an olive-themed Treasury. Held onto this group for at least 2(?) weeks before I was able to post it on an avaialble Treasury. My title, "OLIVES R4 olive us" is pretty corny but at least its kind of fun! The Treasury will be up until Thursday March 4th at 12:16am. Now that's pretty specific! Here's the link:

p.s. I included my upcycled Siesta Tray in the Treasury and you can view additional pictures of it here:
